Osmania University established in the year 1918, is the seventh oldest University in the country,
third oldest in south India and the oldest in the state of Telangana. It was founded by His Exalted
Highness Mir Osman Ali Khan, the Seventh Nizam of Hyderabad State. It was the first University
to impart higher education through Urdu as the medium of instruction. It is the largest affiliating
University in Asia with close to 720 affiliated colleges spread over 8 districts of Telangana State
(Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Medchal, Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Siddipet, Sangareddy and Medak)
providing academic and research facilities for nearly five lakh students. It was accredited with a
‘FIVE STAR’ rating by the NAAC in the year 2001, and with the highest grade ‘A’ in 2008 and in
third cycle reaccredited NAAC with A+ Grade in the year 2017. It has been ranked 22nd among
the top Indian Universities as per the recent survey done by NIRF-2022.
Osmania is a multi faculty and multi-campus university offering comprehensive education with 12
faculties and 53 academic departments spread over eight campus and eight constituent colleges.
It offers 21 academic courses at the UG level (with125 combinations), 72 at the PG level and
Ph.D. programmes in 54 disciplines respectively. It has strength of nearly 1000 teaching and
3500 non-teaching staff. Prof. G. Ram Reddy Centre for Distance Education (PGRR CDE) offers
around 48 UG, PG and professional courses in different disciplines approved by Distance
Education Bureau (DEB) to nearly 50,000 students. The campus is also a home away from home
for nearly 4000 international students from 80 countries. It has forged academic collaborations
with 20 National and 12 International organizations. The University has introduced several
measures to achieve a paradigm shift from a teacher-centric approach to a learner-centric
education.
The University has launched several new initiatives in teaching, learning and research to keep
pace with global trends in higher education. These initiatives are aimed at empowering the
students with knowledge (skills, improving academic performances) and increasing their
employability. The University established Linkages with industry for promotion of sponsored
research and consultancy, and also academic and research collaboration with many national and
international organizations through MoUs. The University has established Technology
Development Centre to promote incubation facilities for high-end research in Engineering and
Technology. The University has Commissioned Central Instrumentation Facility to provide highend
analytical and other research instruments with state-of-the-art modular and computing labs
catering to research needs.
About The Directorate of Admissions (DoA), Osmania University (OU)
The Directorate of Admissions, OU was established by the University in the year 2000 with an
aim to streamline the process of admissions to various courses offered by the University. The
objective of introducing centralized admission is to conduct admissions in a systematic,
transparent and student friendly manner. It is in these lines that the Directorate has been
carrying out the task of admission process offered by the University and its affiliating institutions
since 2000-2001 academic year. Besides, this office is also carrying out the process of
admissions into various courses offered by Telangana, Mahatma Gandhi and Palamuru
Universities since their inception. The office of the Directorate of Admissions is headed by
Director and supported by the Joint Directors along with other administrative staff. For the first
time in the history of Telangana State, on the guidelines of TSCHE a State Level Common Post
Graduate Entrance Tests (CPGET)-2019 for admissions into various conventional P.G. (M.A.,
M.Sc., M.Com., etc.) courses, PG Diploma and 5 year Integrated courses for admissions into
Campus, Constituent and Affiliated Colleges of Osmania, Kakatiya, Telangana, Mahatma
Gandhi, Palamuru, Satavahana, Telangana Mahila Viswavidyalayam and Jawarharlal Nehru
Technological Universities for the academic year 2019-2020 was conducted. The TSCHE
entrusted the work of conducting CPGET-2019, CPGET-2020, CPGET-2021 & CPGET-2022
entrance tests by Osmania University and it was successfully completed. This year also the
TSCHE has entrusted the work of conducting CPGET-2023 to Directorate of Admissions,
Osmania University.
